Approaching Day-Zero

The day where taps all over the mother city runs dry is approaching, very quickly.

Infact the date has now been moved forward by one day, the date now being the 21

of April, 2018. The date is calculated by looking at the current capacity of the dam and comparing this to the current water usage. With it being summer and water usage increasing as a result, this date might move even closer. Once municipal water is cut, residents would have to get their water at one of around 200 water points that would be set up around the city. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbQ4GxUAivk It’s not for the lack of trying, 39% of capetonians are adhering to the 87 litre per person, per day limit. Despite dam levels steadily decreasing, efforts are being made to save water, with the city introducing pressure management technology to help stem the tide. The city are also expecting three desalination plants to be up and running by the end of March. The next few months should be a tense affair in Cape Town, and if you’re a resident, you can only do so much but promote the urgency of saving water and of course, do so yourself.
